Charlton House Independent School Newsletter

Monday 20th June 2022

Dear Parents,

In our collective worship last week, Mrs Murray talked about how Christians believe that while God is ONE God, he exists as THREE persons. We call this the Trinity. The word itself is never used in the Bible, but the Bible clearly teaches that:

  • God is Father: Genesis 1:1 presents God as the Creator of heaven and earth, after which the whole Bible affirms that God the Father is the sovereign Lord over all of the universe.
  • God is Son: John 1:1-4 clearly teaches that Jesus (the Word) was “with God” from the very beginning, and “was God”. That “all things where made through him…In him was life, and that life was the light of men.” (John 1:4)
  • God is Holy Spirit: Jesus affirms the Trinity in Matthew 28:19 when he commissions his disciples to “go and make disciples…baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
  • And yet, there is One God: One of the first scriptures the Jews would teach their children was Deuteronomy 6:4: “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.”
This is a really hard concept for children to understand. Often we use the analogy of an egg being made of three parts – the shell, the white and the yolk. We also referred to the fact that we exist in many forms to many different people in our lives – I am a husband, a father, a son and a friend to many.

The children were set the challenge to be the very best Charlton House pupil they could be – and they certainly rose to this challenge! I have seen and heard many and varied examples of what it takes to be a Charlton House pupil – determination, fortitude, faith and resilience.
It certainly has been a week full of successes.
